1898-O Morgan Dollar AU
Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1898 silver dollar is a remarkable example of American coinage from the New Orleans Mint. This specific coin has survived in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its classic design. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal and represents a total mintage of 4,440,000 pieces. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, which features a hair band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her profile is the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, along with the 1898 date of manufacture. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing both peace and readiness. Above the eagle, the motto "In God we trust" is inscribed, while the country name and the face value of ONE DOLLAR frame the design. Just above the denomination, the "O" mint mark is visible, indicating its origin at the historic minting facility in Louisiana.
