The 1898 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in New Orleans, this particular specimen bears the distinctive "O" mint mark on its reverse side, positioned just beneath the wreath. Struck with 0.7734 troy ounces of silver at a purity of 0.900, the coin has survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, earning a high grade of Mint State 66+. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word "Liberty," and the entire portrait is encircled by the national motto "E Pluribus Unum," the 1898 date of manufacture, and thirteen stars that honor the original American colonies. The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions "United States of America" and the denomination "One Dollar," accompanied by the motto "In God We Trust."
