Struck at the southern branch of the United States Mint in Louisiana, this 1898 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. This particular issue emerged from a total mintage of 4,440,000 pieces, each composed of 90 percent silver and containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. Having survived more than a century, this coin displays honest wear consistent with its Very Good to Very Fine grading, showing the tangible path of its journey through commerce. The obverse of the dollar presents a left-facing profile of Liberty. Her hair is adorned with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, which features a band inscribed with the word "LIBERTY". Encircling the portrait are the stars and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", with the 1898 date positioned at the bottom. On the reverse side, a heraldic bald eagle stands with outspread wings, clutching an olive branch of peace in one talon and a cluster of arrows of strength in the other. Above the eagle, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed. Below the wreath surrounding the eagle, the distinct "O" mint mark is visible, identifying this piece as a product of the historic New Orleans Mint, positioned just above the "ONE DOLLAR" denomination.
