Because they were minted in Philadelphia, these pieces carry no mint mark, leaving the fields around the design clean and uncluttered. The obverse features the classic Liberty design, wearing a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the date 1899. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, shielded, with the national mottoes IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the country name and the denomination spelled out as TWENTY DOLLARS. This specific coin has survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, graded Mint State 64+ (MS-64+).
