The 1899 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of United States minor coinage. Struck in a durable alloy of 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent composed of tin and zinc, this one-cent piece showcases the artistry of James B. Longacre. Despite its popular name, the obverse actually depicts a stylized figure of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feathered headdress, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed across the band. On the reverse, the denomination ONE CENT is framed by a detailed wreath. A small shield sits at the very top of the design, while a bundle of arrows secured by a ribbon bow rests at the bottom. This particular specimen survives in About Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine lines of the feathers and the delicate details of the oak leaves and shield.
