1899-M Australia Gold Sovereign Veil Head Victoria MS-61 NGC
Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1899 gold sovereign represents a fascinating chapter in global coinage. Minted at the Melbourne Mint in Australia, the coin is distinguished by a small "M" mint mark. It contains 0.2354 ounces of actual gold weight, crafted from 0.9167 fine gold, and has been certified in Mint State 61 condition. The obverse presents the mature, veiled bust of Queen Victoria, a depiction often referred to as the "Veiled Head" portrait. Surrounding her likeness are the traditional Latin inscriptions denoting her royal titles. On the reverse, the legendary scene of Saint George on horseback battling a dragon comes to life, a classic masterpiece created by the designer Benedetto Pistrucci.
