1899 Morgan Dollar MS-63 PCGS

0.7734 troy oz .900 1899 MS-63 (PCGS)

The 1899 Morgan silver dollar stands as a remarkable artifact from the late nineteenth century. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is notable for its relatively low mintage of 330,000 pieces. It was struck during the period of the Bland-Allison Act, a significant era in American monetary history that mandated the government purchase and minting of silver into coinage. On the obverse, George T. Morgan's iconic design features the profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap decorated with agricultural symbols, specifically wheat and cotton blossoms. The classic Latin motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, arches gracefully above her head, while the year 1899 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic bald eagle with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the eagle firmly grasps an olive branch and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness for defense. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, along with the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, positioned directly above the eagle. Struck in 0.900 fine silver, this coin has a total silver weight of 0.7734 troy ounces and a diameter of 38.1 mm. Because it bears no mint mark, we know it was produced at the main Philadelphia facility. This particular specimen is certified as Mint State 63 (MS-63), indicating it has retained its original luster and sharp design details over more than a century.
