1899 Morgan Dollar VG

0.7734 troy oz .900 1899 Very Good

The 1899 Morgan silver dollar stands as a fascinating artifact from a transitional era in American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this specific issue is notable for its remarkably low production run of just 330,000 pieces. Because it was struck at the main mint facility, it carries no mint mark, leaving the space below the eagle's wreath empty, a subtle detail that distinguishes it from its branch-mint counterparts. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty faces left, adorned with a Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word "LIBERTY", surrounded by thirteen stars, the year 1899, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". Each coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing exactly 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle clutching both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. Surrounding the central image are the inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar", along with the national motto "In God We Trust" written in Gothic script above the eagle's head.
