Struck in 1899 at the New Orleans Mint, this Morgan dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted with 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, these heavy coins circulated as a standard part of daily commerce in the United States for nearly eighty years. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its original engraving. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Her hair is adorned with cotton and wheat, while the band of her cap is inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1899, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength in its talons. The eagle is encircled by a wreath, with the national motto In God We Trust inscribed directly above its head. The legend United States of America and the denomination One Dollar frame the design, while the O mint mark below the wreath identifies its origin from the New Orleans facility.
