Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this 1899 Morgan Silver Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. Surviving today in a well-traveled Very Good to Very Fine condition, it carries the gentle wear of a coin that likely circulated during a transformative period in United States history. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, with the word LIBERTY visible on her hair band. Framing her portrait are the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1899 year of issue. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both an olive branch of peace and arrows of readiness. The eagle is encircled by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, along with the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, positioned directly above the eagle's head. The 'O' mint mark below the wreath denotes its origin from the New Orleans facility, adding a distinct regional character to this late nineteenth-century silver dollar.
