Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1899 gold sovereign represents a fascinating chapter in Australian branch mint history. Produced at the Sydney Mint, the coin carries the 'S' mint mark, identifying its origin from a facility established to process the immense wealth of the Australian gold rushes. Each piece contains 0.2354 troy ounces of gold, minted with a purity of 0.9167. The obverse of the coin displays a portrait of Queen Victoria, capturing the long-reigning monarch in her later years, often referred to as the veil head or old head design.
