0.7734 troy oz .900 1899 Very Fine

Struck at the San Francisco Mint at the close of the nineteenth century, this 1899-S Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. The coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a total mintage of 2,562,000 pieces. This particular example survives in Very Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a design that circulated throughout the nation for roughly eight decades. The obverse presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hair band clearly displaying the word LIBERTY. Encircling her likeness are thirteen stars, the issue year of 1899, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle clutches a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The patriotic imagery is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned above the eagle. The S mint mark, located just below the wreath on the reverse, identifies its origin from the prominent West Coast minting facility.
