In 1900, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 1,874,460 massive gold coins, each containing 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold. Struck without a mint mark, these twenty-dollar pieces represent a high point in late nineteenth-century American coinage. This particular specimen is certified in a highly preserved state, graded Mint State 64+ (MS-64+), which highlights the crispness of its original design elements. The obverse features a classic profile of Liberty, her hair swept back and secured, wearing a diadem bordered with pearls. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed upon her crown, with the date 1900 anchored below. Thirteen stars encircle her portrait, representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a majestic eagle spreads its wings, bearing a shield upon its breast. Above the eagle, an oval of thirteen stars is illuminated by a halo of rays. The country of origin, United States of America, is inscribed around the upper rim, while the face value is abbreviated as Twenty D at the bottom.
