1900 Indian Head Cent BU (Brown)

0.0000 troy oz 1900 Brilliant Unc

The turn of the twentieth century brought with it a beautifully preserved piece of American coinage, the 1900 Indian Head Cent. Struck in Philadelphia, this particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, displaying the distinct brown tones characteristic of aged copper. Composed of 95 percent copper with the remaining 5 percent consisting of tin and zinc, this small cent represents the artistic standards of its era. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse features an unconventional depiction of Liberty wearing a traditional Native American feather headdress. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed across the band of the headdress, while the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1900 encircle the central figure. The reverse of the coin presents a simple yet elegant layout. The denomination ONE CENT is boldly struck in the center, framed by a detailed wreath. This classic combination of Liberty and the wreath design makes the 1900 issue a compelling subject for anyone exploring the evolution of United States minor coinage.
