The Morgan Dollar is one of the most celebrated series in United States coinage, with examples circulating for roughly 80 years. Among these silver issues, the 1900-O/CC variety stands out as a highly studied anomaly. This specific coin, struck at the New Orleans Mint, is recognized in the famous Van Allen and Mallis reference guide as a Top 100 variety due to its distinctive O over CC mint mark punch. It remains a captivating piece of minting history, preserved in Extra Fine condition. Struck from 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, the coin displays the iconic profile of Liberty on its obverse. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1900, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle clutching both arrows and an olive branch. Above the eagle, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed, while the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR frame the design. Just below the eagle, the O mint mark reveals the coin's New Orleans origin, carrying the visible traces of the Carson City CC mark underneath.
