In 1901, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 111,430 gold double eagles, each carrying a face value of twenty dollars. These impressive coins were struck from 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. Because they were minted at the main facility in Philadelphia, they do not bear a mint mark. This specific specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 64 (MS-64). The preservation of its surfaces allows observers to appreciate the intricate details of the classic Liberty design and the traditional heraldic reverse.
