1901 Morgan Dollar Fine
The 1901 Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a composition of 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was produced in Philadelphia, it carries no mint mark, distinguishing it from those struck at branch mints during the same year. Out of a mintage of 6,962,000 pieces, this specimen survives in Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation. On the obverse, the design features Liberty wearing a traditional Phrygian cap, decorated with a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year 1901, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. This side showcases the classic artistry that defined American pocket change at the turn of the twentieth century. The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, holding an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength. Above the eagle, the motto In God We Trust is written in Gothic script, while the legends United States of America and One Dollar frame the central design. As a series, the Morgan Dollar served as active currency for nearly 80 years, making this well-traveled coin a fascinating artifact of early twentieth-century daily life.
