The 1901 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic representation of late nineteenth and early twentieth century American coinage. Minted in San Francisco, this particular issue carries the 'S' mint mark, denoting its origin from the Western facility. With a total mintage of 2,284,000 pieces, each coin was struck with 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, featuring a purity of 90 percent. On the obverse, the design presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. A band in her hair clearly displays the word 'LIBERTY'. Encircling this central figure is the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum', alongside thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1901 year of issue at the bottom. The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions 'United States of America' and the denomination 'One Dollar'. Positioned above the eagle is the national motto, 'In God We Trust'. This specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcasing crisp details from its time in circulation.
