1902-1910 Great Britain Gold Sovereign Edward VII Avg Circ
During the first decade of the twentieth century, the Royal Mint produced a gold coin that circulated across the globe. Struck in 0.9167 fine gold, each sovereign contains 0.2354 troy ounces of precious metal. These pieces, dated from 1902 to 1910, represent a brief and distinct era in British numismatics, surviving today in average circulated condition. The front of the coin displays the portrait of King Edward VII, who ruled the British Empire during this period. Surrounding his likeness are the abbreviated Latin inscriptions indicating his titles as King of all Britain and Emperor of India. This royal portrait offers a direct connection to the Edwardian age. On the reverse, the coin features one of the most celebrated designs in numismatic history. Created by Benedetto Pistrucci, the artwork depicts Saint George on horseback, rearing up to slay a mythical dragon. This classic image has graced British coinage for generations, combining historical legend with exceptional engraving craftsmanship.
