Struck during the second period of operations at the New Orleans Mint, which spanned from 1879 to 1909, this 1902 silver dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. The coin is composed of 90 percent fine silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. It measures 38.1 millimeters in diameter and has a thickness of 3.1 millimeters. This specific specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving its original luster and details. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. Her hair is adorned with a Phrygian cap, a headband bearing the word LIBERTY, and a wreath composed of agricultural elements. This side of the coin was designed by George T. Morgan, who also created the reverse imagery. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, grasping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. The reverse inscriptions include the issuing nation, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination, ONE DOLLAR, and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The letter O is positioned on this side to denote its origin at the New Orleans facility, which produced 8,636,000 of these dollars in 1902.
