Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1902, this impressive twenty dollar gold piece represents a classic era of American coinage. It contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, representing the substantial weight and value of circulating currency from the turn of the twentieth century. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified as Mint State 63. The design, created by James B. Longacre, was produced by the United States Mint from 1850 to 1907. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty is encircled by thirteen stars, representing the original colonies, with the date 1902 positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings protecting a shield. Above the eagle, a halo of rays and thirteen stars appears, accompanied by the inscriptions United States of America and Twenty Dollars.
