1903 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-63 NGC

0.9675 troy oz .900 1903 NGC

In 1903, the Philadelphia facility of the United States Mint produced a limited run of 287,270 gold double eagles. Each of these substantial coins contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, with a purity of 0.900. This issue belongs to a historic design series that spanned more than half a century, from 1850 to 1907. The obverse of this twenty-dollar denomination displays a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. Her hair is secured, and she wears a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, with the date 1903 positioned below the portrait. This classic depiction was created by the noted designer James Barton Longacre. On the reverse, Longacre's heraldic eagle takes center stage. The eagle is flanked by patriotic imagery, with the country name UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curving along the top border. The denomination TWENTY DOLLARS is clearly inscribed along the bottom edge, completing a design that has fascinated numismatists for generations.
