In 1903, the Philadelphia Mint struck a special gold dollar to commemorate a monumental event in American history: the Louisiana Purchase. This small treasure, minted with a purity of 0.900 gold and containing 0.0483 troy ounces of precious metal, represents a unique era of commemorative coinage. With a total mintage of just 17,500 pieces, these coins are relatively scarce survivors of early twentieth-century American numismatics.
