1903-O Morgan Dollar MS-66 NGC
The turn of the twentieth century brought forth remarkable examples of American silver coinage, including this striking dollar struck in 1903 at the historic New Orleans Mint. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, this piece is a survivor from an original mintage of 4,450,000. Having achieved a certified grade of Mint State 66 (MS-66), it represents a level of preservation that allows its design details to shine just as they did over a century ago. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty, adorned with a Phrygian cap that bears a band inscribed with the word 'Liberty'. Encircling this central portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year 1903, and the classic Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with outstretched wings, grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. The national motto 'In God We Trust' is positioned above the eagle, while the legends 'United States of America' and the face value 'One Dollar' frame the entire design. The 'O' mint mark below the wreath serves as a quiet nod to its Southern origin.
