1903-S Morgan Dollar AU
Struck at the San Francisco Mint at the dawn of the twentieth century, the 1903-S Morgan Dollar is a fascinating piece of United States coinage. This specific coin is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor traces of wear from its brief time in circulation. Minted from 0.900 fine silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The total mintage for this year and mint combination was relatively limited, with only 1,241,000 pieces produced. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, decorated with a band inscribed with the word "LIBERTY". On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted with outstretched wings. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch representing peace and a bundle of arrows representing readiness. The "S" mint mark, indicating its origin at the San Francisco facility, is positioned on the reverse side, located just above the "ONE DOLLAR" denomination.
