1904 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle PR-67 Cameo PCGS

0.1209 troy oz .900 1904 PCGS

In 1904, the Philadelphia Mint produced an incredibly small run of proof coins for the Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle series, striking a mere 170 pieces. This particular specimen survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, achieving a certified grade of PR-67 Cameo. The cameo designation highlights the beautiful, sharp contrast between the frosted details of the design and the deeply reflective fields surrounding them. Struck in 90 percent gold, this coin contains 0.1209 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the classic depiction of Liberty, surrounded by stars with the inscription LIBERTY and the date 1904 positioned below her portrait. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle accompanied by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, abbreviated as 2 1/2 D. Because these proof coins were minted in such limited quantities without mint marks, encountering one in such a high grade offers a rare glimpse into the finest craftsmanship of the early twentieth-century Philadelphia Mint.
