In 1904, the Philadelphia Mint produced this twenty-dollar gold piece, a heavy coin containing 0.9675 ounces of precious metal. This specific specimen has survived in a remarkable state of preservation, certified as Mint State 62 with proof-like characteristics. The proof-like designation indicates that the coin possesses highly reflective fields that contrast beautifully with its frosted details, mimicking the appearance of a specially struck proof coin. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, her hair secured by a pearl-adorned crown that bears the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait is the mintage year of 1904. This classic depiction was created by James Barton Longacre, who designed the series that ran from 1850 to 1907. On the reverse, the design draws inspiration from the Great Seal of the United States. It features the national name, United States of America, along with the denomination.
