In 1904, the Philadelphia Mint produced a substantial run of over six million twenty dollar gold pieces, representing the classic Liberty Double Eagle design. These large, impressive coins were struck in 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of the precious metal. Because they circulated widely or were held in bank reserves, finding an example today that has survived in such an exceptional state of preservation is a treat for any numismatic enthusiast.
