The 1904 silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint carries a fascinating legacy of preservation. While more than three and a half million of these coins were originally produced, many spent decades locked away in government vaults. A significant portion of this issue remained hidden in Washington, D.C. Treasury storage starting in the 1930s, while another massive hoard was unexpectedly released from the Philadelphia Mint vaults in October of 1962, introducing these pristine specimens to the public long after they were minted. On the obverse, a classic representation of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word Liberty. This side is framed by the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, thirteen stars, and the 1904 date. The reverse showcases a bald eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by the inscriptions United States of America, One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust. The O mint mark is clearly visible, marking its origin from the historic Louisiana facility. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.7734 troy ounces, this coin belongs to a legendary series that circulated as everyday American currency for nearly eight decades. Surviving in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, this specific issue offers a remarkable window into the early twentieth century.
