In 1904, the San Francisco branch of the United States Mint struck a significant run of twenty-dollar gold pieces, totaling more than five million coins. This heavy coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a standard of American currency that circulated widely before the monetary changes of 1933. The issue belongs to a long-running series produced from 1850 to 1907, created by designer James B. Longacre. The front of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, her hair secured by a pearl-edged crown that clearly displays the word LIBERTY. On the reverse side, a majestic eagle stretches its wings, protecting a shield held against its chest. Above the bird, thirteen stars form an oval pattern beneath a halo of light rays, while the surrounding inscriptions declare the issuing nation as the United States of America alongside the denomination of Twenty Dollars. This specific specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, receiving a certified grade of Mint State 61 (MS-61).
