1905 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU

0.9675 troy oz .900 1905 Almost Unc

In 1905, the Philadelphia Mint produced this twenty dollar gold piece, a substantial coin containing 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold. Because it was struck at the main Philadelphia facility, the coin bears no mint mark, leaving its clean surfaces to highlight the intricate engraving work of James Barton Longacre. The front of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Her hair is secured by a delicate pearl crown that displays the word Liberty. Directly below her portrait, the 1905 production year is clearly struck, surrounded by a ring of stars along the border. On the other side, the design draws inspiration from the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle shields its chest while holding arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The words United States of America curve along the top rim, while the twenty dollar denomination is anchored at the very bottom.
