1906-S $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-63 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1906 MS-63 (PCGS)

In 1906, the San Francisco Mint struck this impressive twenty-dollar gold piece, a denomination often referred to as the double eagle. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this heavy coin represents the final years of a classic American design series that spanned from 1850 to 1907. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving its historic details in remarkable condition. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. Her hair is secured in a bun, and she wears a coronet or diadem bordered with pearls, which clearly displays the inscription LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, along with the 1906 date of manufacture. On the reverse, designer James B. Longacre placed a bold heraldic eagle with wings fully spread. A protective shield is positioned on the bird's breast, and a halo of thirteen stars sits within an oval of rays directly above its head. The reverse is completed by the inscriptions United States of America and the denomination Twenty Dollars, alongside the mottoes IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
