In 1907, a bold new vision for American coinage emerged. This ten-dollar gold piece, struck in 0.900 fine gold, represents the debut year of a design series that would run from 1907 to 1933. Created by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this coin departed from traditional depictions of Liberty, choosing instead to present her wearing a Native American war bonnet. The obverse of the coin showcases this crowned figure of Liberty, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed upon her hair band. Thirteen stars encircle the portrait, representing the original colonies, with the year 1907 anchored at the bottom. The design brings a distinctively American aesthetic to the precious metal, which contains 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold. On the reverse, a powerful bald eagle stands in profile. The bird is surrounded by the traditional national legends, including the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination, TEN DOLLARS, and the classic motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details of Saint-Gaudens' celebrated work.
