1907 $10 Indian Gold Eagle (Cleaned)

In 1907, the United States Mint introduced a bold new design for its ten-dollar gold piece, departing from traditional depictions of Liberty. Created by the celebrated sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this coin presents Liberty adorned with a Native American war bonnet, her hairband inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars arch over her portrait, representing the original colonies, while the year 1907 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin displays a proud bald eagle standing amidst the national inscriptions. Surrounding the eagle are the phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, along with the face value of TEN DOLLARS. This specific design series continued production from 1907 until 1933, with coins struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mint facilities. Each of these historic pieces contains 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold, minted with a fineness of 0.900. While some surviving specimens from this era show signs of past cleaning or jewelry use, they remain captivating examples of early twentieth-century American coinage art.
