In 1907, the United States Mint struck the final issues of a legendary gold coin series that had circulated since the middle of the nineteenth century. This twenty dollar denomination, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, represents the culmination of a design that began production in 1850. Minted at the Philadelphia facility, this particular specimen has survived in exceptional quality, certified in Mint State 63 condition. The obverse side displays a classic profile of Lady Liberty. Her hair is secured, and she wears a coronet inscribed with her name, while thirteen stars encircle her image to represent the original colonies. This design was created by James B. Longacre, who served as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. On the reverse, an eagle stretches its wings wide, protecting a shield on its chest. The design features the country of origin, United States of America, along with the face value of Twenty Dollars. This coin marks the end of an era for American gold coinage, capturing decades of monetary history in a single piece of precious metal.
