Struck in the final year of its long production run, this 1907 Liberty Gold Double Eagle represents the culmination of a classic era in United States coinage. The Philadelphia Mint produced this massive gold piece, which contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900. James B. Longacre designed the coin, and his work circulated widely from 1850 until 1907. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty facing left, her hair secured in a tight bun with a few loose curls cascading down her neck. She wears a coronet inscribed with her name, while thirteen stars representing the original colonies encircle her portrait. The date 1907 is clearly visible at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a majestic eagle with outstretched wings holds a shield across its chest. Above the eagle, thirteen stars are arranged in an oval pattern beneath a halo of rays. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America and the denomination Twenty Dollars.
