In 1907, the United States introduced a magnificent new twenty-dollar gold piece that would forever change the landscape of American coinage. Designed by the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this inaugural issue is particularly famous for what it does not include. The very first coins of this series, minted in 1907, completely lacked the traditional inscription 'In God We Trust', creating a distinctive variety that captures the imagination of historians and coin enthusiasts alike. The obverse of this impressive gold coin showcases a powerful image of Lady Liberty marching forward. In her hands, she carries a torch to light the way and an olive branch representing peace, while the warm rays of a rising sun illuminate the background. The year 1907 is clearly visible, marking the beginning of a production run that would span from 1907 to 1933. On the reverse, Saint-Gaudens depicted a majestic bald eagle soaring through the air. This side of the coin bears the essential inscriptions 'United States of America' and the face value, 'Twenty Dollars'. Struck in Philadelphia from 0.900 fine gold, each of these historic pieces contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal, surviving today in Extra Fine condition.
