1907-D $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU
In 1907, the United States Mint produced the final run of a classic coinage design that had endured for over half a century. Struck at the Denver facility, this twenty-dollar gold piece represents the culmination of a series that began in 1850. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this heavy coin is a tangible survivor of America's pre-1933 gold era, graded in Almost Uncirculated condition. The design, created by James B. Longacre, showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty on the obverse. Her hair is bound by a band clearly inscribed with her name, and she is encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The year 1907 is anchored at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a detailed heraldic eagle guards a shield on its chest, with another arrangement of thirteen stars clustered above its head. The inscriptions surrounding the central image declare the issuing country as the United States of America, alongside the denomination of twenty dollars and the Denver 'D' mint mark. Because vast numbers of these gold pieces were melted down in later decades, surviving specimens from this final year of production offer a fascinating glimpse into the nation's early monetary history.
