1907-D $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-63 NGC
In 1907, the United States Mint at Denver struck this magnificent twenty dollar gold piece, marking the final year of a classic design that spanned more than half a century. Created by James Barton Longacre, this series began production in 1850 and concluded in 1907, making this particular issue a historic capstone to a legendary era of American coinage. Each of these hefty coins contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a time when precious metal circulated as the literal backbone of the nation's economy. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Her hair is secured in a bun with loose curls cascading down her neck, while a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY rests upon her head. Thirteen stars encircle the portrait, with the year 1907 positioned at the bottom. This Denver Mint issue has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving the crispness of Longacre's engraving. On the reverse, a grand heraldic eagle stands with wings spread, shielded and clutching an olive branch and arrows. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curve along the top rim, while the denomination TWENTY DOLLARS is displayed below. Above the eagle, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is encircled by a halo of stars, completing a design that defined American gold currency for fifty-seven years.
