In 1907, the Denver Mint produced a striking twenty-dollar gold piece that marked the final year of a legendary American design series. This substantial coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, struck with a purity of 0.900. Having survived in exceptional Mint State-64 condition, it offers a beautifully preserved look at early twentieth-century American coinage. The obverse side presents a classic profile of Lady Liberty, her hair secured in a bun while loose curls cascade down her neck. She wears a coronet inscribed with her name, encircled by thirteen stars that represent the original colonies of the nation. The year of minting, 1907, is clearly struck at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a magnificent eagle with outspread wings holds a protective shield. Above the eagle, a halo of rays and thirteen stars illuminate the motto 'In God We Trust'. The surrounding inscriptions clearly identify the issuing authority as the 'United States of America' alongside the face value, 'Twenty Dollars'. A small 'D' mint mark below the eagle confirms its origin from the Denver facility, making this a fascinating artifact from the twilight of the Liberty head design era.
