The year 1907 marked the end of an era for one of America's most enduring gold coins. First struck in 1850, this twenty dollar denomination represents more than half a century of American coinage history. This particular piece, minted in San Francisco, has survived in exceptional condition, certified by professional graders at Mint State 62. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty commands attention. She wears a crown adorned with pearls, which clearly displays the word Liberty. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars alongside the 1907 date of manufacture. The design was originally created by James Barton Longacre, who served as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful image adapted from the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle with outstretched wings holds a double ribbon bearing national mottos, while the inscriptions United States of America and the face value of Twenty Dollars are boldly struck around the rim.
