0.4838 troy oz .900 1908 Almost Unc

The year 1908 marked an intriguing transition for the ten-dollar gold piece. This United States Mint issue features the striking imagery created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who chose to present Lady Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars encircle this central figure, while the word Liberty is clearly inscribed across her hair band, with the date positioned directly underneath. On the reverse, a proud bald eagle stands as the focal point, framed by the inscriptions United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and the ten-dollar denomination. This particular version also includes the motto In God We Trust. An unusual design choice can be found on the edge of the coin, where raised stars are minted to represent the individual states of the Union. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this historic coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900. It survives today in Almost Uncirculated condition, offering a remarkable look at a series that was regularly produced from 1907 to 1933.
