In 1908, the United States Mint produced a ten-dollar gold piece that stands as a testament to a revolutionary era in American coinage design. Created by the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this coin represents a dramatic departure from traditional depictions of Liberty. Rather than a classic crown or cap, the obverse features Lady Liberty adorned in a Native American war bonnet, her hair band clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars arch over her head, symbolizing the original colonies, with the date 1908 anchored below. The reverse of the coin displays a powerful bald eagle standing proudly. It is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TEN DOLLARS. This particular issue includes the mottoes E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST.
