1908 $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle No Motto MS-62 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1908 MS-62 (PCGS)

This twenty dollar gold piece, minted in Philadelphia in 1908, belongs to the celebrated Saint-Gaudens series. A defining characteristic of this specific issue is the absence of the phrase "In God We Trust," a design choice shared only with the earliest releases of 1907 to 1908. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal and has been certified in Mint State 62 condition. The obverse showcases Lady Liberty walking forward, bathed in the rays of a rising sun. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted mid-flight above a glowing sun, accompanied by the inscriptions "United States of America" and "Twenty Dollars." Rather than a standard reeded edge, this coin features the raised letters of "E Pluribus Unum" separated by stars along its side. This pre-1933 gold treasure represents a brief era in American coinage before the design was altered to include the motto and, eventually, more stars on the obverse to reflect new states.
