In 1908, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking run of over four million twenty-dollar gold pieces that stood out for a unique visual detail: they entirely lacked the traditional religious motto. This specific variety of the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle showcases the design in its purest form, emphasizing the clean lines of the artwork before the inscription was later reintroduced.
