In 1908, the Denver Mint produced a ten-dollar gold piece that showcases a distinct departure from traditional American coinage imagery. The front of the coin features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, uniquely adorned with a Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars arch over her head, representing the original colonies, while the word LIBERTY is inscribed across her hairband. The year of issue, 1908, is positioned directly below the portrait. The reverse side presents a powerful image of a bald eagle standing proudly. Surrounding the national bird are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of TEN DOLLARS. This specific issue is notable for what it does not include, as it represents the No Motto variety of the design, which was minted during a brief period from 1907 to 1933. Crafted with 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold, this coin also features a unique design element along its edge, where raised stars are minted to symbolize the states of the Union.
