In 1908, the Denver Mint produced a classic United States gold coin that represents a significant moment in American numismatic design. This twenty-dollar gold piece, struck with a purity of 0.900 gold, contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. It belongs to the celebrated Saint-Gaudens series, a lineage of coinage widely admired for its artistic merit and bold relief. This particular issue is notable for featuring the variety with the motto. Earlier versions of the design omitted the phrase 'In God We Trust', but by 1908, the inscription was restored to the reverse of the coin, positioned above the sun. The obverse displays the date of 1908 at the bottom right, marking the year of its manufacture. The Denver Mint's contribution to this issue is indicated by the 'D' mint mark, representing one of the 349,500 pieces struck at the Colorado facility that year. This specimen has survived more than a century in remarkable preservation, graded as Mint State 65 (MS-65). At this high grade tier, the coin retains its original luster and sharp details, allowing observers to appreciate the intricate elements of the design just as they appeared when the coin left the coining press in Denver.
