Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1909 double eagle represents a famous chapter in United States coinage. The piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, representing a total mintage of 2,774,925 pieces. It survives today in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of the original luster and detail from the year it was minted. The obverse design presents Lady Liberty stepping forward, illuminated by the rays of a rising sun. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted mid flight above a glowing sun. The reverse also displays the inscriptions United States of America and Twenty Dollars, while the edge of the coin features the motto E Pluribus Unum separated by stars.
