1909-S $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-62 NGC

0.9675 troy oz .900 1909 NGC

In 1909, the San Francisco Mint struck this impressive twenty dollar gold coin, a piece that showcases one of the most celebrated designs in American numismatic history. Created by the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this series was produced from 1907 to 1933. Each coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a standard of precious metal coinage from the pre-1933 era. The front of the coin features a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty stepping forward. She holds a lit torch to light her path and an olive branch as a symbol of peace, while the rays of a rising sun illuminate the background. The year 1909 is clearly visible on this side. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring across a sunlit sky. The back also bears the bold inscriptions spelling out the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, alongside the denomination of TWENTY DOLLARS. This specimen has been certified in Mint State 62 condition, preserving the intricate details of its historic design.
