The 1909-S Indian Head Cent represents the final chapter of a beloved American design era. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent blend of tin and zinc. It stands as a fascinating artifact from the transition year when the Indian Head design was ultimately replaced. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse of the coin features a profile of Liberty adorned in a Native American feathered headdress, with the word Liberty clearly inscribed across the band. The reverse displays the denomination of ONE CENT centered within a detailed wreath. At the top of the wreath sits a shield, while a bundle of arrows tied with a ribbon bow rests at the bottom. Below the bow, the distinct S mint mark indicates its origin from the San Francisco facility. This particular specimen has survived more than a century in remarkable condition, certified in Almost Uncirculated 55 state.
